Of all the episodes of “Twilight Zone” that were filmed in
the early 1960s, there were seven classic episodes that have constantly been
favorites for the past four decades. I
have had the distinct privilege of being featured in two of these
episodes. One was the “Eye of the
Beholder” in which the pig or porcine-like doctors were operating on a
beautiful young lady to make her more resemble them. They considered her very ugly.
I came in near the end and took her away. “Twilight Zone Photos” of me in that episode are available to you
autographed as you desire.
The second classic episode was “The Trade Ins” in which two
aged people are seeking to trade the weak, sick, old bodies in for two young
ones offered for sale in a display window.
They discover they can only afford one exchange. The elderly lady, played by Alma Platt,
convinces her husband (played by the late great Joseph Shild Kraut) that since
he was chronically sick and inform, he should be the one to make the
exchange. Subsequently, I became live
and married to the old lady. In one
dramatic scene, I tell her how wonderful our lives are going to be, when all of
a sudden I take a hard look at her and had an instant realization that this
situation just plain would not work,
Many people over the last forty
years have asked me how I was able to achieve that instant memorable
onscreen reaction. I will now share it
with you. The director of the episode,
Elliot Silverstein, ordered all the sound on the take shut off and then shot
off a blank shot from a revolver, and that, dear friends, is the story of that
reaction. The “Twilight Zone Photos”
