                               Voice Over Audition

Make the hunt for the objective of the character in the depiction specific (i.e., the character’s moment-to-moment objectives within the audition scene).  Are we doing a monologue or a dualogue? Have you given careful thought to your material?  If dialogue is provided, was the script carefully marked with indication of what words should be emphasized, if the reading should be ended up or down, if they should be framed or forcefully projected or whispered?  If doing different depictions in a voiceover audition, use different colored pens to delineate the different characters.  Note:  Even if you are not on camera, use body language to delineate your various characters if doing a voiceover audition with multiple voices.  Expand on your voice, as it is your primary tool of communication in our media universe.

Do you recall any role model in the epoch of your life? Do you recall how they were dressed, their posture, how they spoke?  In most instances, what remains is voice image, a signature voice that can be immediately recognized and is familiar like an old friend.  I have used a myriad of these familiar voices spanning the past 30 years.  Please observe, in my demonstrations and renditions, that they convey only an indication or reminder of great screen character.  I am not a mimic.  However, this is a great aid in establishing a viable, interesting character to aid in relinquishing a favorable impression.
